Founded in 1751
Carlisle is located slightly northeast of the center of Cumberland County. The borough lies in the Cumberland Valley, a section of the Great Appalachian Valley, to the south of Conodoguinet Creek, a tributary of the Susquehanna River. Carlisle is famous to many people for its car shows, put on regularly by Carlisle Events throughout the spring, summer, and fall at the Carlisle Fairgrounds. In addition to the regularly scheduled shows there are specialty shows, including the GM Nationals, the Ford Nationals, the Chrysler Nationals, the Truck Nationals, Corvettes at Carlisle, and the Import/Kit Car Nationals.

Army Heritage Center
The U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center engages, inspires, and informs the Army, the American people, and global partners with a unique and enduring source of knowledge and thought. The Center is an integral part of the War College and maintains the knowledge repositories that support scholarship and research about the U.S. Army and its operating environment.

Carlisle Theatre
The historic Carlisle Theatre has been referred to as “the gem of downtown”. The Carlisle Theatre is one of the principal forces behind the revitalization of downtown Carlisle. Established in 1939 and renovated in 1993. The Carlisle Regional Performing Arts Center presents musical concerts, performances, films, live theatrical productions, and programming for children and families.

Carlisle Fairgrounds
The Carlisle Fairgrounds is 82 acres of gated ground for the presentation of large-scale outdoor events.
Appalachian Trail Museum
The museum is located in a building that is itself a historical artifact, a structure built more than two hundred years ago as a grist mill. It stands across the road from the Pine Grove general store, a site famed in hiker lore. It is here that thru-hikers traditionally stop to celebrate reaching the midpoint of the trail.
Pine Grove Furnace State Park
Steeped in natural and historical features, the 696-acre Pine Grove Furnace State Park is at the northern tip of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in an area known as South Mountain.
